It's been a non-stop week over here. We've done day camps, had tummy troubles, gone shopping for an upcoming trip and eaten Dairy Queen Blizzards. I know...but it's summer!
Maggie and I are currently at the USO awaiting a flight to NYC where we'll be attending the ballet and walking until we drop. It can't be muggier than North Carolina, right?
Here are a few gems from our week so far:
My brother-in-law, who works for Amazon's veteran's affairs department, always gives this wine as a gift. I saw it at the local wine shop on sale and thought I'd give it a try. I didn't have high hopes but was pleasantly surprised. This was solid, and I'd buy it again. I'm going 7/10 on this one.
This was what Sandy and I saw on our walk Wednesday evening, coming through the woods and around a bend. We both stopped, and I like to think she appreciated the moment as much as I did.
I put these Rainier cherries in my bag at the market and was stunned when they were $12. But...they were worth it. I've been eating out of this bowl all week.
This has been one sugar-filled summer. I took both kids shopping this week for our upcoming trips, and my son and I hit up Starbucks. I don't know how he can drink that sugar-laced beverage and continue moving through the day without a sugar-crash. In his defense, he didn't finish it. Even an 11-year-old has limits.
I'm still serving the one-pan chicken dinners. This one was particularly good. Nothing brings my kids to the table faster than roasted chicken and potatoes. They decline the broccoli, but I keep offering. The 'experts' say one day they'll partake. I'm not holding my breath.
That's it for my week.....
Here's what I've been perusing online:
This NPR story regarding the loss of psychiatric hospitals from 2017 is really interesting and sad - there's always a catch 22.
Wait...what the heck is Juuling? There is no end to what I don't know as a parent.
This article on 'clean eating' discusses the possible dark side of the health phenomenon. This is fascinating. I've got coconut oil and ghee in my pantry. :)
I'm on the hunt for melamine dinnerware (did I just say dinnerware?) for outdoors. I like having plates and cups that kids can use without having to be too formal or careful. I love vintage camp this set and this set. I am also thankful we're beyond the cartoon character dinnerware phase. Just saying.
Finally, my husband would be in the dog-house if he did this. I never want to fall asleep in the car again.
I hope everyone had a wonderful week and has either fabulous plans for the weekend or nothing at all on the books other than a good novel, a bottle of wine and plenty of coffee. We're off!
