This week is a blur, maybe because I had to go get blood drawn this morning before I had coffee. I've been putting that off for a year. A year.
Otherwise, it's been a normal week of summer vacay. We've got family coming for the weekend, which means a trip to the ice cream parlor, steaks on the grill and probably some jalapeño poppers. Good times.
Here are a few bits from my week, which is pretty much all about food and wine. :)
This rosé is up there with the Klinker Brick I had a few weeks ago. Isn't it funny that I said I didn't like rosé. :) 8/10.
I added freshly-sliced white nectarine to my steak salad and...wow. What a nice addition. I had this with a glass of rosé and exactly 7 M&Ms because I'm classy like that.
This was a solid Malbec. I think this bottle was around $12 and was really well-balanced and an easy drink. We like an easy drink around here. 8/10.
I made these Oat Streusel Jam Bars from Food 52 and can't stop eating them. I put them in the fridge, which is what takes jam bars (IMHO) next-level. Straight out of the pan, they're okay. Cold? They hold together much better and are far more flavorful. I was eating them so often, I put them in the freezer. Readers - don't think that stopped me. I won't be able to make these again for awhile, given my lack of discipline. They pair well with my afternoon iced-coffee.
My husband loves these jalapeño poppers. They're super simple. Just cut the jalapeños in half and remove the seeds/membranes. Put in a slice of peach (or mango) and top that with a hunk of cream cheese. Wrap a half-slice of bacon around the whole thing and put those babies on the grill (or under a broiler). Boom. Appetizer done.
Here are a few bits from around the web I've been looking at this week:
These removable wallpapers are gorgeous, for kids rooms or any other room. I love the florals.
This article on Refinery 29 is a solid read: What I Learned From My Parents About Money.
10 Beautiful IKEA Kitchen - I wonder how well they hold up? I love the blue cabinets.
This is the kind of stuff I think I should be making as a 'good' mom.
I just heard about Kara Thoms. Um....right up my alley.
That's it! I hope everyone is preparing for all sorts of summer fun this weekend. I'll report back on ice cream and if I serve any amazing wines for this crew. I know you're all on pins and needles. :)
