Today I'm keeping it simple and thinking of the wives, husbands, mothers, fathers, siblings and friends of the soldiers who lost their lives serving our country.
In a hostel in Shanghai about 15 years ago, a young woman from Australia asked me, "Do you think America is the best country in the world?"
I thought about that and replied, "I think America is the best country for me."
I think we all feel that way about our homes, our families and our countries, and we are all grateful for those people who choose to serve them, in so many capacities.
My heart aches simultaneously with pride and sadness today, and I am sending little prayers to every military wife who has to spend this day alone.
Happy Memorial Day.
