As you know by now: I love gifts, little packages to unwrap and enjoy throughout the year. Books...face oils....Chris Stapleton....it's all good.
I also love knowing that what I choose to give and receive has an impact beyond the day it's given, beyond the walls of my home and beyond my own family.
Here is a list of gifts that go beyond borders and make an impact in the quality of life for people (and animals) all over the globe:
International Rescue Committee Best Sellers - $58 provides a child school tuition for one year. ONE WHOLE YEAR.
Heifer International - for $72 you can send a Family Farm Care Package, which helps provide families with the training and tools needed to not only farm but also to sell their products.
Smile Train - my husband gave me this as a gift one year, donating $250 to provide a surgery for a child to repair a cleft palate. It was the best gift I got that year, and I still remember opening the envelope.
Oceana - for $75, you can give your child a donation to Oceana and receive a plush dolphin (or other animal), complete with a cookie cutter and adoption certificate. The money goes to protecting the habitats of these animals. My kids love these!
USO - as an Army wife, I am often so grateful to the USO for the services they provide to soldiers and their families. I am grateful, every day, for the sacrifices made by soldiers and their families. Donations can be as little as $35, and from an Army wife, they make a difference.
I'm grateful to be with the people I love this year, to have enough resources to even think about gift-giving or tree decorating or cooking making. I'm grateful to also be able to think about giving in a way that might give someone else a little life-jolt.
