I listened to this NPR story from This American Life a month or two ago, and it has really stayed with me. I won't say more about this story, except to say it's about a phone booth in Japan as people struggle to come to terms with life after a tsunami.
On this day, as I give thanks for so much of the good in my life, this story is a reminder of what exactly that good comes down to: the people in my life, my loved ones.
The houses, cars, vacations, belongings...even the future....seem insignificant when I listen to these people's voices, to the heartbreak and emotion as they speak.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone, all over the world, American or not. I'm thankful for all you.
